Joy in Relationship

Sometimes when I’m overwhelmed or burnt out, I retreat. When we finished our school year in June, I was exactly those things-burnt out, overwhelmed, and just overall not content with our school year. Don’t hear me wrong-we enjoyed our first year. I feel it in my soul that we are doing the right thing. We had multiple successes and areas of celebration. But it wasn’t everything I wanted—it wasn’t completely us.

We took a month off from school. Every book I tried to pick up went unfinished. I just couldn’t focus.

I began to pray for God to reveal His plan for our new school year. More than just the curriculum. More than just the extracurriculars. I wanted Him to reveal what was missing.

Believe it or not, the answers came while I was washing dishes(because yes-our dishwasher is still busted several months later. I’m sure there is a lesson.).

We need God to renew in us the joy of relationship. The family culture. To experience the deep connection with each other and Christ. To allow our children to find what makes them passionate. To play. To nurture life-long learners. To WORSHIP. To love. To see light in the kids eyes after a day filled with wonder.

And none of that revolves around the curriculum. We can do the work-and we will. I want the relationship.

“No matter what style we choose, may we never forget what this learning journey is really about—relationship, togetherness, real conversations, discovering passions, and loving our own story.” -Ainsley Arment-The Call of the Wild + Free

Better Watch Out

This is going to be a different kind of book review. I could rave about this book for all the things that made it such a wonderful Christmas...
